Surah Ibrahim · Ayah 7

لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you.”

For a long time I treated gratitude as the response — something I'd do *after* the thing arrived. Say alhamdulillah, move on, get back to building. This ayah flips that. Gratitude isn't the response to the increase. It's the input. *La'in shakartum la-azīdannakum.* If you are grateful, I will surely increase you. The order matters. The shukr comes first, the ziyādah follows. What I've started to notice is that the people in my life who actually receive more — more rezeki, more peace, more capacity — are not the ones who chase more. They're the ones who sit with what they've already been given long enough for it to land. The chasers stay flat. The grateful ones keep being increased.
